They should be working on a Kelly LeBrock bot instead of a truck bot.

But we're (well, some of us) are doing it to ourselves. Driving trucks with adaptive cruise, lane departure warning and automatic braking is really just testing technology for companies like these to use and replace drivers with once it's perfected enough. If they couldn't mass test this stuff with 10000's of drivers, it would really cut down on this crap.

And then you have driver input on GPS errors and that, too, is helping end jobs.

    We're doing it to ourselves.

Honestly what will this save? You will probably always need a driver in the seat and always have the same HoS. How many accidents will this save? How many accidents are the company's that would buy these trucks having on the major highways vs local routes that a human would drive?

I'm only 23 and have been driving 3 years now but I don't see these replacing me on my life time....they'll be like turnpike doubles where only on certain roads can they be used.

I hope that thing is more dependable than the radar in my truck. Wait till it just stops working for no reason. My radar will slow me down when a vehicle gets in front of me. It will also panic stop and about toss me through the windshield. I've used several of these driver assist technologies. Lane departure warning systems, radars, etc. The one commonality is their unreliable and undependable nature. This technology is years and years from being dependable enough for everyday use.

Well we just received a request to quote the insurance on the 4 Volvos that OttoMotto is testing in CA........going to be pricey, but I'd guess the venture capitalists behind the company won't flinch.

I'll be ###### if I sleep with the thing in automatic control.. oh wait...

It is one thing to be in say a A380 bound for australia with a complete apartment suite with beds inside to sleep knowing the automation that takes place up front. Flying is soo precise.

You will have to totally and completely remove cars and non professional drivers from a roadway designated for use of automatic trucks. Sort of a ground side version of FAA Center, Approach and departures.

    My idea?

Old school ROAD TRAIN. Give me ####### 10 trailers and a big tractor with a German 1200 hp MAN Tank Engine, full disk air that wont quit or burn on em all. 10 loads delivered for the price of one.

Enough of this little #### double pup or triple.

Bad code will just brick the computer.

See here it goes line by line begin to end. If it reaches end without error it either loops to repeat or begin next set of instructions. if a line is bad. ERROR Brick. Freeze and that's that.

I did coding for exactly two days and ran screaming. No way I want to do this for a living.

Dude, it's going to happen. Driving with the appropriate sensors and receivers and calculation of vehicle / space dynamics can be broken down into an algorithm. A computer could drive a road train thru NYC, adjusted properly.
It might not happen during our tenure, but it is going to happen.
We're dinosaurs already, the only difference between you and I would be that I accept the fact.
You want to be seen as indispensable, as important, a bastion of the fare and trade... the time will come, granted, after our time, when we are not.
The game has begun, it is afoot. It will not stop for you.
