The company is really getting on me about my mpg. Right now I am getting 6.04 they want at least 7 they printed this sheet that tells everything I do in the truck. Are then any tricks I can use and how do I get a little breathing space on this issue.I already drive one of the slowest trucks on the road I can imagine going even slower.I have heard that in the summer it will get better because of the weather and no more fuel additives is that true?I understand their concern but I still have to get from here to there without falling into a coma.

6Mpg is very good overall... 7Mpg is almost a impossible number to get with newer engines... You would have to never go faster then 55Mph and most of your loads would have to be light..
Don't worry about it.. tell them your doing the best you can and obviously 6 is all you can get.. Tell the person if they "personally" think they can do better then they are more then welcome to ride along with you for a month...
Most companies that harass drivers about fuel mileage pay the dispatcher a bonus to keep your mpg up..
So just tell them if they can do better with "YOUR" truck come on out and show you how for a month.... -
they want 7 mpg? what are you driving? a pick up truck?
-
Yea, who do you drive for as they sound like greedy morons to me. 6mpg for a truck is good! 7mpg is not an easy task...

My MPG fluctuates a lot, depending on where I actually fuel up. I guess some fuel is just better quality and the additive hurts the fuel economy. For this month I'm averaging around 6.8 (~14% idle, I believe). Last month it was very low, due to running the truck overnight a few times (~35% idle). Those idle numbers may look high, but it counts all kinds of stuff where I'm obviously not just sitting idling the truck. Backing in, looking for parking spots, etc.

Idling is a joke.. You can be sitting in a traffic, waiting at a traffic light, waiting for a train, waiting in line at a scale and all that crap will click that idle timer on.. I used to sit and watch the qual comm and see when it would start registering Idle time.. So, the number can be determined by so many differnt variables its not funny...

and this is a good example of some the things that show that you don't have to be an O/o to be effected by high fuel prices and the low rates that all of us are suffering with
-
How about if you just pulled the lever instead of popping the yellow knob. Would that stop the idle timer from coming on?
-
Wow It never occurred to me that they cant distinguish between me idling at a light and me idling overnight.if I get out of the truck I shut it off but I am a wuss when it comes to being cold I ain't freezing for nobody.I drive a flatbed for maverick. They make us fuel at loves or pilots so I really cant control the quality of fuel. I remember once someone telling me that pilots had the dirtiest fuel I have no Idea if that was true or B.S. it is an automatic tuck but they want me to put it in manual and shift at around 1100 feather the pedal and not go over 62 mph that is gonna be real tough for me to be that disciplined.
-
LOL not sure what lever your talking about....
You don't even need to pull the nobs.. Just sitting there long enough with your foot on the break will click the idle timer
on..
I used to try several things to see if anything would work.. pull the red only, yellow only, chalk the wheels you name it i probaly tried it.. Nothing would keep that timer from clicking on.. It simply reads the the trucks computer and will start idle time after a preset time period of not moving...
