Does anyone out there have more than one fuel card they use? Say you have one that has benefits at Pilot stations, another for TAs, and maybe a third for whatever. Not every part of the country has a Flying J much like some parts don’t have TAs (I’ve never seen one). I’m curious since I just signed up for one that has benefits at FJ/Pilot stations, but it’s inevitable that someday I’ll need fuel when there’s no FJ around. The truck holds 300 gallons, so maybe that’ll never happen.

You talking rewards cards, or cards for fuel purchase?

If for purchase, a lot of the times you save more than any dicounts offer you by fueling at a smaller gas station with a truck pump or two.

A good example is the T/A in Paulsboro, NJ. The Exxon station across the street is anywhere from 30-50 cents per gallon cheaper....10 miles away in Pittman is a Sunoco that runs 15 cents cheaper than the Exxon in Paulsboro.

Talking about purchase cards. Often times the small mom and pop fueling station in the middle of nowhere charges .40 more per gallon than the Loves 50 miles away. Sometimes it’s the other way around.

I have a NASTIC card. Then I have my company debit card and a American Express. I never found a reason to need anything else. NASTIC says they will cancel you if you don’t purchase %90 of your fuel through them. I’m sure others are the same? (Don know how they would know?)

When I’m home I buy fuel at the local circle K with my debit card. When on the road NASTC card gets me where I need but have purchased out of network a handful of times.

The only thing nastc cares about is that you use their card in network 90% of the time....

There’s no minimum gallon per month purchase.... and they don’t know if your using another companies card....

I use nastc and a major oil companies card and use which ever one has the best price..... both have apps to check prices ahead of time.

There is an art to purchasing fuel... I routinely save well over $100 a week, sometimes $200 by using aps on my phone. Fuel Book, Speedway and GasBuddy. The fuel card, I have a company Comdata card and my Visa Debit Card. I only purchase fuel from the small chains like Speedway, Circle K, Beacon & Bridge, etc. And also look for mom and pops when possible and note those locations if I am unable to stop. I do not buy fuel at the big chains, which in many cases is loaded with crap.

One thing I do is when I am running, if I need fuel or not, if I see a place selling for less than everyone else, I buy fuel. I figure I am saving quite a bit more doing it this way. I can plan for fuel stops, the ELD, not so much.

The NASTC fuel card gets some pretty good discounts at speedway.

I waited and waited and kept bugging my bank guy....and finally Huntington bank came out with a biz card that is 4% cash back on all fuel up to $7k per quarter. That combined with the points from whatever place I am fueling seems to add up OK.

I have not joined NASTC and I doubt I will at this point. I ran the numbers over and over and over again and it just made no sense to me in my location/situation/lanes.

    Oxbow Thanks this.

TA/Petro has cost plus fuel if you can get it. They sell the fuel for the same price they buy it for at the fuel rack/terminal. Then change a pumping fee per gallon like 3 cents.

My company gets it thru Comdata and I got it when I had my own truck using Comdata when I worked for Landstar.

The cash price in PA is $3.39 at a small mom and pop place same price using Comdata that what the Comdata app say also $3.39

The TA in Youngstown Ohio is cash price of $3.019 Comdata say I will pay/ my company will pay $2.379 at the TA in Youngstown Ohio. That a big saving per gallon

The Love's in Youngstown is $2.43 and the flying j is $2.47 and Truck World is $2.91

    Oxbow and Mattflat362 Thank this.
