Was in Ulster county NY yesterday about 20 min. From my stop. Turned down a road (no signage before turning down the road indicating bridge out or detour) turned down the road and immediately saw lots of signs saying goes "bridge out 1 mile a ahead local traffic only". I pulled to the side of the small 2 lane road, I put hazards on to try and figure out what to do. I walked ahead a little and saw a big warehouse with lots of loading docks. Since there was no safe place to turn around before the signs I decided to pass the signs (still around mile or so from the bridge) and turn around at the warehouse well once I passed the signs there was a local PD just sitting there waiting. He put his lights on and pulled me over (right near the entrance of the wharehouse) he asked to see my bills and once he determined I was not delivering to that wharehouse he wrote me a ticket for "disobeying a traffic control device" he said once I passed those signs I was breaking the law (unless I was delivering to that wharehouse then I would be considered local traffic. He then proceeded to tell me that "you truckers think you own the road and can go where ever you want your the 3rd 1 today" he took my paperwork, license, etc etc and then checked my elogs. He wrote the ticket and then said "your court date is ..... but since your not local you probably won't show up to fight it" and then he chuckled) I pulled into wharehouse got turned around and went on my way. Is it worth contacting a local attorney to see if I can get it reduced to a non moving violation? I have totally clean record and would like to keep it that way. He'll I wouldn't even mind paying a fine and curt fees if that meant my record stays clean
My 1st ticket

What number "code" is listed as being violated...?
-
It's absolutely worth fighting. Especially if it's as you described with no signage until it was too late to do anything about it. Sounds like a money grab to me. Why else would a cop be sitting there on a road that is going to have very little traffic
NavigatorWife, Giggles the Original and tsavory Thank this. -
In violation of NYS V and T law. Section 1110a
-
I could feel it the whole time. It was obvious his job yesterday was to sit on that road and generate revenue
-
Yes, it's about revenue and having power over people he feels inferior to.
Fight it. Try google: Ticket Clinic. Maybe contact OOIDA also.
He's just a lowlife dirt bag cop that gives the real police a bad name. Evidently the mayor of that town is also a dirt bag or he would fire the wannabe cop.freightlinerman, OPUS 7, jungledrums and 3 others Thank this. -
Sorry to hear. I don't even know if it would have been much better if you called local police and asked for an escort?
FIGHT IT! PROTECT YOUR CDL MAN! Hopefully u had a dash cam too?OPUS 7 Thanks this. -
Good grief a perfect example of cops out to get the trk drivers.I bet a cop sits there all day long waiting to ticket trk drivers.
freightlinerman Thanks this. -
Easy for me to say in hindsight, but I think I would have walked back to the approach before that turn to the closed road and taken photos of the lack of signage warning of the closed road/bridge out etc.
I hope all goes well for you beating that BS. -
On hindsight... next time you run into a situation like that, pull over and put your 4-ways on... call the local police and ask for assistance in getting turned around. If they tell you to go ahead and turn around at the warehouse, then it is by their judgment.
Take pictures of the sign.pattyj and Giggles the Original Thank this.
