I did a company sponsored CDL program. They put me in a hotel for 3 weeks while I did school. Class was broken down as 1 week of class, 1 week of backing, 1 week of driving. No complaints about school was fine and I learned what was needed. Small class size only two of us for the 3 weeks. I met my trainer a week after I graduated class. At first it was great but then I turned into something I dread. he doesn’t run the AC at night because it effects his fuel bonus. The top bunk has no windows and is 10 degrees hotter then the bottom so I sweat all night. He showers once every three day so On that third day he starts smelling bad. I got my CDL a week after I was with my trainer and the day I got my CDL we run teams from that day on. So I’m running on 3-4 hours of sleep a night and am running off energy drinks. I expressed how I don’t want to run teams But he doesn’t care. All he cares about is the 5,000+ miles he gets every week. It’s not bad I am making over 2,000 a week while I’m training but it’s effecting my health if I do this in the long run. I contacted Disbatch and they stated I can get another trainer but I will have to wait 2-3 weeks since their low on trainers. I’m already on my 4th week so I’m just going to stick it out. Should have only a week left of this. it’s literally been survival, I don’t like my trainer, I don’t get along with my trainer, he refuses to give me 30 minute breaks. He prefers to take his breaks while we either fuel or are at a shipper. we drive in silence for 11 hours a day because he wants no music or talk radio. loterally it’s been torture and I been thinking everyday if I should stick with it or quit. This small truck ain’t meant for two grown humans. the actual job isn’t the problem. I enjoy driving and backing is fun, it’s literally just everything else. sorry I don’t have anyone to vent to because we been on the road for 3 weeks straight so I posted here. signing off from Somewhere in Oklahoma.
Hang in there, you're almost done. The four weeks I spent with my trainer was the most miserable month of my life.
Same advice from me...just stick it out because you're 75% done. Better than starting over. I went through a very similar situation when I was with my trainer for 5 weeks back in 2011. I always drove the overnight shift and slept during the day while he drove. Company policy was that the trainer had to be in passenger seat whenever you're taking an exit or driving thru town. This meant that I would drive 10 hours straight (no 30 minute break required back then) because he didn't want me to wake him up for exits, just to use a restroom... All in all, a terrible great experience because I did learn most of what I needed to know about trucking, and fine tuned things over the last 10 years. Hang in there buddy, it will be all good in a week or 2.
Ditto. My trainer was a miserable filthy loudmouth slob. And a complete moron. Once I finally got rid of him and got in my own truck, all the stress fell away and the job became a hundred times easier. Stick it out OP, you'll be glad you did.
This tells me that you don’t care about what could happen, stop this crap now. Screw him and his attitude, demand another “trainer” and get the hell out of there.
I just finished my training, and I'm on my first week of team with my older brother. once you're alone it gets better.
