    Hello,

I will be starting own operations in the New Years and put together my numbers to see how much I have to make in order to break-even. If there is anything I am missing on, please let me know.
Also, please keep in mind the expenses are in Canadian Dollars and Cent/mile is based on 10,000 miles per month. Hauling dry van and I believe most of the revenue will be in USDollars.

    Truck Payments:
    On a 2012 year truck: $1300/ month = $0.13/mile
    Driver pay: $0.44/mile + 28% for CPP, EI and taxes = 0.57
    Fuel: $0.55/mile
    Tires: 3000/3 years = $0.10
    Maintenance: 1000 per month = $0.10
    Road and Permit Fee's = ???
    Insurance= $0.13
    Broker Fee's for Loadboards = 300/month = $0.03
Trailer Rental until I purchase one: 0.20/ mile
    Total: 1.81

Are my numbers realistic or too high?
    Thanks

    TallJoe Thanks this.

What happens if you can't make 10k a month?

How much does your numbers change for say 8k or 6k?

Oh and if we have broker's fees, we take them out of the front end of the load, not the gross revenue received.

Remember that you will not get 10000 miles every month.... breakdown. hometime....

You have 2 types of experiences
1st is fixed... things that must be paid if the truck moves or not.... truck payment ect..
    2nd variable expenses.... fuel...ect.

What will your numbers look like if you only get 7000 miles...?

Set up a spread sheet with the actual costs and a field where you can ender in different mileage numbers to see how it affects your numbers based on the mileage.

OOIDA has a few spreadsheets you can download at http://www.ooida.com/EducationTools/Tools/ to give you a start.

That 2012 truck can put you in a poor house. What are you planning to buy?

    That’s $1.34/mile in US dollars.

It’s very high unless you are including paying yourself with your calculations.
