I was in a rollover on march 26th of this year.It was ruled preventable.I was bobtail when it happened so no freight was involved but there was more than 5,000 of damage involved. This was my first accident and i have driven 3.5 years in a tractor trailer and 4.5 years in a tow truck before that.I have contacted a few carriers and they said they could not do anything for me.Does anyone know how i can get back in a truck and any company that would hire me.i have never had a ticket before in a commercial vehicle and my company did not report me as an unsafe driver. The safety manager said he was reporting me as a violation of their zero tolerance policy for accidents.Any information or help would be appreciated.

So I take your company fired you? I think you'll have to list all that information on the next job application. I know we always wanted to know if a driver was ever fired from a job. I don't think your company can list the details but like you said they reported it as a violation of their zero policy. If I were you I'd down load all the trucking companies in your area and start banging on the doors. You've got experience so you're not limited there. You've just got this accident to hurdle over. I think you'll find something if you go out and look. Good Luck.

you rolled a tractor? no trailer? no load? how embarassing! that's like, hitting a parked car embarassing. I usually try to be encouraging to people who make mistakes, but rolling a bobtail - sorry. you might want to start buying lottery tickets.

Chief, what gives? If you bash this guy, at least give him some advice he can use. The sweepstakes van ain't comin'. He knows it. You know it. It's clear he's a genuine driver with a common problem.

Bonzai, you should look into getting some other kind of training. That's my advice. Don't handcuff yourself to trucking.
If I were you, I'd look into driving a bus or maybe getting training to operate heavy equipment.

    Good luck.

like I said, I'm all for giving people the benefit of the doubt and second chances, but let me ask you something, if YOU were the owner of a company, and someone applied to drive, and had already demonstrated that they were willing and able to demolish a $100,000 truck, would YOU hire them and put them behind the wheel, knowing that if they destroyed another one, $100,000 or even $5,000 would come out of YOUR pocket to replace or repair it? truck companies (even large ones) have multimillion dollar deductibles, so insurance does NOT cover this stuff. that's why most companies have a mandatory termination policy for guys who can't keep their rigs upright. he says it was only a $5,000 repair. I wonder if he offered to reimburse them? usually it adds up to 10s of thousands after the tractor, trailer and freight are cleaned up and all the fines are paid.

The damage was OVER $5000 and that was given as a figure because that is the cutoff at where the company considered it to be a "critical" crash.

Chief, as for rolling a bobtail, get your info before you start your bashing. I was T-boned in an intersection by an oil truck. It flipped me and slid me across the road. How does that foot taste now?

Just a note: I have been driving for over 20 years and professionally for ten of that. This was my first wreck - EVER. I give on driving a truck. I'll use my CDL to run equipment, get back in school, and come out making 50K+ in the first year.
