All our tractors are 10 speeds, but we just got a new 2016 Freightliner box truck and they tried the ultrashift in it. It takes a lot to get use to it. I feel like it run the RPM's up too high in low gears before shifting. Plus the deal where it locks down if you go slow in reverse drove me nuts, like it won't free roll. Issue that we've had is that on a longer drive sooner or later it will beep a few time then the screen showing the gear will go either blank or a solid square stays on. It will beep again when completely stopping and starting again, such as from a red light. However you can shut it down and restart it and it's back to normal.
The other thing I hate is that back up, especially to a dock or any tighter area where you need to go slow it will chatter a little, sort of like riding the clutch in a manuel trans. If you don't stop or speed up the rear end will get to bouncing pretty good.

Not too sure if you have the same tranny....A coworker was having trouble bumping the dock and rolling foward. So he bumped the dock and when he started rolling he set the brakes. Big mistake, if you set the brakes in gear when rolling that locks up the tranny, mechanic time.....Fully automatic tranny

What model Freightliner, because if they ORDERED this truck new this may hurt a bit, if they bought it off the lot, I understand.

Because if it's a small M2 derivative (under 370 hp), and they didn't spec the Allison 3000 they either didn't know what they are doing, or they are a dumb ###.

If it's a full blown class 7/8 and they didn't spec a Cascadia WITH the DT12, again, either they were sold a bill of goods by the sales guy or they are a dumb ###.

If they would have taken the time to drive any of those trannies, the choice becomes obvious pretty quickly.

To bad they did not design them like the Volvo I-shift..
It will idle back in reverse for the most part......much better design although I can't stand automatics!

I drove a new Pete with the Ultra shift.....did not like that one bit!

SAY NO TO EATON ULTRA SHIFT. They are junky jerry AUTOMATED MANUAL transmissions. If you want an AUTOMATIC transmission, go with Allison. Otherwise get a dd12 or I shift. Don't buy that ultra crap transmission. It's crap. And go ahead and cry Eaton, it's crap
