Good advice, buying a scangauge. If your going to own a newer emissions truck than its best to be able to diagnose these things and start wrenching on it yourself. Lots of good info at this point on the web as these are commonly experienced problems with newer trucks. Beats throwing all your money at a dealer. Good luck and hope you can make it work.

His service manager friend ran the history and said it had problems from day 1. Unfortunately he didn't talk to him when we were buying and we did not have a rigdig. Would getting a rigdig now be helpful with the decision?

Rigdig wouldnt have told you much about mechanical problems. Just accidents/salvage title and DOT inspection reports

I'm not sure we're leased on with is the best company, yep, just over a dollar a mile, but we were gonna stick it out with them until we learn some ropes of the OTR. I have set some money for repairs but he doesn't want to drain our savings because he thinks we bought a lemon.

Most trucks start having little problems here and there around 200000-300000 miles. As long as you have the Engine Warranty, thats the important thing. An Engine rebuild is what would cost. If you can stick it out and keep the little nuisances repaired, youll probably have you a pretty good truck time the warranty runs out on it.

I guess advise on both if possible. It was a Stevens truck so not sure if it sat too long. Unfortunately, very little mechanic knowledge so yep, to the dealer every time engine light came on. I was hoping, having time on the road, we'll be able to do some online classes for basic stuff but he already want to pull the plug. I want to give it more chance but he thinks its the gambler in me talking.

Nope, we didn't ran an ECM report. Would it be helpful to ran one now? How much does it cost? I believe we still have engine warranty until 500K.

We supposedly have warranty until 500K but the sensors were apparently not covered. He called the dealer regarding selling it back and that's how I found out we'll take a loss of about $13K. It used to be a Stevens truck so not sure if it sat awhile. First trip was to NY and yes, because that's where we were sent by the company we leased on. Unfortunately, BF doesn't have a lot of mechanical knowledge but has a close friend who's a service manager in Central CA that helps him out.

Hi dewine29, just put a piece of black tape over the light that's on. Sorry, thought a little humor might help. Since you are going to take a loss on the unit anyway, I'd try and get the issues settled and give it another try. If it's any consolation, as more and more company trucks get the axe, (Kraft) being an O/O could be the place to be. Good luck, again.

Nobody said this yet, so I will. If he's ready to pull the plug already, then he probably shouldn't have bought a truck to begin with.
While you have had a few problems on your first trip, it's way too soon to know if the truck is a lemon. It could be just a case of unfortunate circumstances that you've encountered.
He needs to give it more time. You have the warranty on the drive train, and that's the important thing. Surely he didn't think he was getting a bumper to bumper warranty on a used truck. There are literally thousands of things that can malfunction on a newer truck that won't be covered by a warranty.
If he's afraid to take it back out on the road again, maybe you should take the loss and get out of it. It sounds like maybe he's not ready to take the plunge into being an owner operator. Lots of drivers never feel comfortable with the idea of buying a truck. It's no problem, but you need to be sure before you jump in.
    Good luck with your decision.
