There's no such thing as "free." You will pay for it one way or the other.

I contacted them and they don't offer a refresher unfortunately. Theyrequire at least 3 months ecperience. Looks like a good outfit I may have to check out once I get enough experience again.

Can you tell me why they are so bad? I survived a year and a half with Swift back in 2001. They worse than Swift?

That's a tough call on whom is the worst, I will say that I have heard western express is trying to make positive changes. western express has a rep if hiring ex-cons and that scares some folks. I personally know a couple of western ex drivers that have nothing negative to say.

Comparing a Swift flatbedder to a Western flatbedder both applying for a job, as a whole, Swift is heads and shoulders more capable. As far as flatbedder said go, I don't believe that I've seen worse than Western.

"But Six, I'm not a flatbedder"

I know. If you were, you would have never mentioned Schneider and Western.

Swift's problem isn't necessarily the drivers they hire, Swift's problem is their office personnel. Not knocking van drivers, but as a whole, the open deck divisions of the bottom feeders are worlds better than the vans, from training to recruiting. Why so? Because STUPID is much more difficult to hide when the trailer is a flatbed. Swift flatbedders have proven to be just as capable as TMC, Maverick and Melton. That has not been my experience with Western. I've met many a capable Swift driver. I've seen very few Westerns. Never seen a decent Western flatbedder.

Yes, few companies are as bad as Swift, but there actually are worse. Western is, IMO, comparable to CR England.

And by the way, unless they're paying you to watch tv, satellite tv shouldn't be a selling point.

Yeah but I remember when I was OTR before there's down time. Waiting for your next load, to get unloaded or loaded etc. Having satellite TV would be nice. It's not really important to me though. I just need to find a company that will offer me refresher training and let me start better providing for my family. Schneider and Western Express are the only ones I've found so far that hire from my location.

Hence why I said what I said. You compared the two. Schneider is a choice. Western is when you have no choice.

Try Abilene Motor Express. They have hired drivers that haven't been on the road in 20 years.
Knight Transportation recently bought the company.
