As someone who has burnt more than his fair share of bridges I just wanted to say that this man speaks true. The problem is the more bridges you burn the less you have to get away from the fire that follows. We actually have it pretty good in this industry in that there a huge need for drivers at the moment, and fewer people willing to do the job, so we're a hot commodity. We can afford to piss off more than a few people.
Imagine if we were in a field such as medical transcription, like my wife, where all the jobs are either going overseas or to computers. You have either 2 choices, accept crap pay from crap employers who know you are desperate, or GTFO and find something else to do.
I will give OP the benefit of the doubt however and assume he was naive and not desperate and also suggest he move on to some place that does pay break down, layover and other accessorials/delays.
