Almost everything has to do with seniority at the Major LTL’s union and non union including time off

I had eight years at R&L and spent time with both CFCC and CF back in the day. Very familiar with it. If you’re good financially I’d stay where you’re at.

Yeah, that’s pretty much what’s keeping me from doing it, and definitely slip seating.

    LTL Bull Thanks this.

I told my wife if I was 10-15 years younger, it would probably be an easier decision but being 5-6 years from retirement, not so sure.

Another thing is the QUALITY of home time. I had an 0900 bid start time with a 45 minute commute, with little traffic, on either side. So I’d leave 0800 to get to yard on time, put in 10-11 hours on average so I’d hit the house between 1945-2045 Monday through Friday. Sounded great, right? Home every night sleep in my bed etc, etc. Now mind you I really liked P&D work though you are looking at linehaul. Regardless, the weekend would hit and I’d be exhausted. Time M-F I saw the kids a few minutes in the morning, the wife and kids for 1.5 hrs at night including mealtime. I much prefer my schedule of 2-3 days out or 4 and home early Friday. It may not be as much home time but the quality of home time is much better vs quantity of time

    Team818 Thanks this.

If he goes there and happens to land in a single screw he won’t be slip seating at least.

ABF runs singles quite a bit on the road actually. He’s looking at linehaul too, so if they need a tractor while he’s laid down for city work they’ll take it. I think ABF bags out also. Not like R&L linehaul where it’s all swaps or turns.

They’re actually running more 53 ftrs, but will never get away from doubles.

True but R&L doesn’t slip seat single screws. The linehaul guys all run tandems.

ABF has some tandems but the majority are singles. The guy told me they were buying like 500 new tractors, Macks and Freightliners.
