    Ok, I know that you didn't go and p/u the truck, but to simplify this, just google FMCSA, they have a information number, give them a call and ask them, inform them the situation and see what they say, I say you'd be fine in this situation, as well as the owner of the truck, but they will give you the answer your looking for
