Happy Thanksgiving! Hope all is having some great visits with family and friends. Just got my authority about two weeks ago and I get 20+ calls a day and 10 texts a day... some offering help with staying in compliance and some offering loads to run. I've replied to 2 texts out of curiosity and both came back with opportunity to make more than normal pay per mile. $1150 to run 130 miles on a 120 day "contract"... I did not pursue much further but I'm curious, what's the catch with these dispatchers/ brokers offering such high rates when you don't see these on any load board? Are they legit? How do I vet them if I were wanting to throw caution to the wind and jump? Is there loads out there that do pay that well and I'm just being over worried?

I'm thankful for all the old school drivers out there that are still here, offering sound advice for us young drivers.

You're welcome and here's some advice. Don't answer ANY of that crap. There are so many bottom feeders and middle men in this industry it's insane.

NO ONE who wants to help you make it in this business is going to call you. You have to call THEM! First you have to find them. This can take a lot of patience and time.

Everyone who calls you, unless it's directly related to the load you are currently on, is trying to take your money. Turn your ringer off.

This will die down though, I got tons of that stuff when I was new too.

    Godspeed driver....

Sounds like what happens if you get a ticket in an open records state. You get home to 20 letters from bottom feeding lawyers offering to take your case.

Most of us get calls like that. I have answered calls on several occasions when I thought it was the receiver telling me my bol's were ready. It was always an Indian with a really strong accent, who I could bearly understand. My suggestion is do not answer any of the calls, and block them, as they are all scams. Think about it, if they had loads paying that good, don't you think they would already have carriers who have been in business for years?

Ask yourself this: WHY would anyone offer these insane rates to a company that is just starting out?

I've been getting them for years now. It's all b.s. the foreigner ones are the worst with their non unstandable accents. Many will try to con new Authorities into making them think various things expired and the deadlines are today mimickingthe FMCSA. All can be done by yourself once you read it. Another demonic plague set of individuals trying to bottom feed off of carriers.

    Get used to it LOL.

I start getting emails in September for a service who will update my UCR..... then I file it in October. And still get emails and calls.

Here the past few weeks Ive gotten emails and calls warning me about the fees and fines for not filing on time. Warning me there are only 3 days left to file my UCR and MCS150.

    It does get aggravating.....

Yes exactly right. Filing updates is so easy now. Literally a couple minutes of your time. Usually free. I just want to add- be especially careful about companies with official Government sounding names. They like to quote penalties and often claim your in violation of a deadline or requirement.

OMG I am going to say it, and to all getting a new authority, take this advice seriously.

GET YOURSELF ANOTHER PHONE WITH A SEPARATE PHONE NUMBER, GET A SEPARATE EMAIL ADDRESS - READ GMAIL - AND USE THOSE TWO FOR YOUR AUTHORITY RECORDS.

WHEN YOU GET THROUGH THE APPLICATION PROCESS, TURN OFF THE PHONE.
