New driver in training

Everyone in my CDL class, except maybe a farmer's kid with 10 years truck driving experience by age 21, felt uncertain about their backing & shifting ability prior to taking the test. It sounds like you are being appropriately nervous. People with less skill & dumber than you pass the tests every day. Even if you don't pass one thing, you just re-test a couple days later. Conscientious people over-think sometimes. The goofballs aren't bothered by even big scewups. Don't sink your own boat with anxiety.

 

Yes......always lock in and focus on what's at hand. Too many drivers make the mistake of looking too far ahead, according to my observations. If you go through some of these threads, you'll see drivers that are currently employed, but are already having wandering eyes for their next job, when they need to focus on honing their skills, so they bring an improved version of themselves to the next opportunity. I promise you, if you focus solely on passing the test, you will pass the test easily. Then you'll be able to focus on the next chapter of trucking. Always remember, 1 mile at a time.
