Hey guys and girls im new to the forum and am looking for some advise before I make a decision this Wednesday. Im 25, and I graduated from NETTTS at the end of august and went OTR with swift. I had a REAL bad experience with the company during this time and it left a very bad taste in my mouth, so I came home a couple weeks ago and decided to look for something local. I know its hard and everyone had to put their dues in with OTR experience, but I found a few companies that are willing to hire me locally, drive class a, and have very nice benefits. In the grand scheme of things local class a is what I want. Then, suddenly a local class b company came calling offering more pay then the local class a companies. Now I am not afraid to admit im a slave to the almighty dollar, and money talks, but I don't wana get stuck with a year of class b experience, and have all those local class a offers disappear. At the same time I know it might be good if I wanted to drive a dump truck in the spring thru fall (cause dump trucks are really cool) and that wouldn't be so bad. Im having a hard time making a decision, and any advice or personal stories that parallel mine would ease my mind and id greatly appreciate it. Thanks

So the Class A offers disappear, so what?
If driving Class A isn't for you, which it appears not to be, who cares what people think?
    Drive and get paid, driver.

Local job, nice pay, who cares if it's a small truck. I drive for the paycheck not the kind of truck.

In an odd way I can relate to your situation. I had a terrible experience with my first company right out of CDL school and I mean nightmare BAD.

I resigned and I've been kicking around, looking at various Class A companies and I just keep coming back to the same conclusion that Class A probably isn't going to work for me. It's a gut thing. I've got two small kids at home who have told me that they don't want me to go back to trucks.

Unfortunately, I have yet to find a driving job that is eight hours a day, five days a week, which I'd very happily do. I very likely won't be working DOT hours again any time soon, if ever.

Lots of folks on here who have suffered and struggled and paid their dues and now run three days a week and make $70K a year will probably land on me like a ton of bricks, but if these are the dues I have to pay, then I don't really want to be in this club.

Broken relationships, alienated children and family members, loss of just about all social life, not to mention the numerous sociopaths, psychopaths and just plain obviously untreated mentally ill folks I've met in only a short time in the industry just all add up to a kind of dysfunction that makes it unappealing at any price, even if I do think trucks are kind of cool. The price is too high and the pay is too low, at least for me.

But I don't begrudge anybody trucking. We've all got our deals in life to make.
    So yeah, I can relate.

It's not a step down to do what you've got to do to make it work for you.
    Class A isn't the end-all, be-all, pinnacle of driving.

We have no guarantee that there will be a tomorrow for any of us so do not worry about it. Let tomorrow worry about itself and grab that class B job as soon as you can.
