I have been looking into getting my CDL and I am interested in paying for the schooling myself. I have a family and so i'm waiting to go into a dedicated/local trucking position. I have a few trucking companies in mind I'm interested in but was wondering.
Are there any trucking companies who will hire a newbie for a dedicated/local job?

as an example, my employer DEMANDS NO LESS than 5 years all seasons experience.
we have a customer that needs the freight, to be on his satellite warehouse docks every night, weather permitting and any other act of god interruptions.
this will be true of any customer (like mine) that is dedicated accounts.
you can try and apply at places like UPS Freight, they do some automotive accounts (or did).
you can try and contact AutoZone corporate as well, NAPA, maybe Sherwin Williams.
but when you have several experienced drivers looking for a change, and a newbie, with no experience.....who realistically would you think, gets the job..????
you can try Werner, they have dedicated accounts, they absolutely do take newbies.
good luck. -
For a dedicated/ local job.
Then as soon as you get thru orientation and
Get a truck, that dedicated/ local position you hired on for has Suddenly been filled.
So you get the option to go OTR until another
Opening comes up.
Which it never does.
Happens all the time.
It your going to a mega, get something in writing.
Don't take anybody's word for it.
Once you get in that truck, nobody knows
Or remembers who you are anymore.
Save yourself from being angry and pissed off
That you got screwed over.Last edited: Feb 25, 2019

Where is your location; state & nearest town or city?
For a local job, you'll need to be close enough to the terminal to commute every day. -
-
Look into linehaul positions at different LTL companies. My friend has been on the same route for past 2 years. He leaves the terminal at 7pm and is back by 5am.
Some companies want 6 months experience at least but it’s worth applying.Dan.S Thanks this. -
My biggest problem is that I have a family and so will not do OTR. I want dedicated/local but the extent I could do is regional.
-
You should be able to find dedicated or regional work in Texas, check with Schneider.
