Not stomping on any toes here. I've heard that to on the van division. The guy I used to work with is pulling skateboard with them.

You haven't even got your feet wet in the industry, but want to get into a fleece. You defiantly don't want to get into one and be home a lot. If that truck is not running, that Payment will still be deducted from your check. Don't let these guys fool you. A lot of their numbers don't take into account taxes that they have to pay each quarter. So in order to make 200 dollars more a week, and the headache and the loss of home time. 4 get about it.

That's part of running your own business/truck... I have a spreadsheet with income/deductions and put away 25% - should only be 20% according to my accountant but I rather have money left over at the end of the year. Separate savings account where that automatically goes into. Many people fail at leasing because they don't account the expenses and just look at one number and figure that's what they make. -
Don't be too hungry to lease a truck. Lonelyswmtrucker is right. Most 'leases' are 1 sided. Otherwise, why would they be trying to push them so hard? Save your money and buy your own truck. At least then you'll have a little flexibility and leverage.

"Bluerider" gives the best advice, SAVE as much money as possible and buy your own truck. Lots of companies lure you with 'no credit check' or 'no money down' but you need money, you need cash flow for the rainy days or the first on the road repair or emergency will bankrupt you. Leasing a truck from the same company that gives you your loads most time is a bad idea. Also, if you don't understand the terms; assets, liability, cash flow, expense, IFTA, balance sheet, escrow, profit and loss, accounts receivable, as they pertain to a trucking business you have no place thinking of owning your own truck. Just because you can get a load from A to B on time doesn't qualify you to be an independant business owner in this industry. Take a online business course and educate yourself on running a small business, that will be money well spent. We are not trying to piss on your parade but we all have seen too many good people with good intentions jump in the deep end of this industry never to be seen again.

You have always got to try and buy your own truck if possible. Too many of these lease agreements are weighted against you. Truckers seem to want the lazy man's way, the EZ qualifier. That's when they get you well and good. The first truck is always the hardest to buy. That's what an old timer told me once and he was right, but then I had excellent credit..Fico= 800 and a sizable down, but still had to jump through hoops to get the right deal through my bank. For some reason banks are scared to death about these kinds of loans. The next trick is to get leased on with the right carrier and there, my friend is when it can all come good, or unravel beofre your very eyes. My first choice was a poor choice despite doing my homework. I didn't do enough obviously, so it's an ongoing project but I'm confident it will all work out in the end.
