I was idling over night as always & just as I got up, the engine shut down. The regen light & the "Stop" engine light was on. What do I do now. Never experienced this before. Will it restart after the exaust cools down etc?
How can I get the truck started to do a regen?
Its a 2015 Cascadia with a DD15.
Thanks for any relivant info.

Ha ha been there done that just recently. I've got a 15 Cascadia evo with a 500 detroit. I was parked up in a TS in Ohio and because my APU was down I had to idle. It was cold!! Halfway thru the night I just woke up and noticed the regen light was flashing, not only that, both the check engine light AND the stop engine light was on too.
Yikes!! First time for me so I didn't panic. I'd already checked the manual and what you do is start the engine and press the regen button for about 5 secs.
the engine will rev up and really start to growl. The exhaust gases are gonna be very hot as the truck will burn off the excess residue.
Dont worry about the other lights, as the regen light will go on and off every few secs. The check engine light and stop light will be on but disregard them.
This will last about 30-40 mins. Eventually the engine will settle down and finish the process.
All the other lights will switch off too.
You are then good to go.
Hope this helps,
good luck -
Hummmm....... easier than I thought. I just held the shut down override & hit the key... started right up after sitting for about 30 minutes..... Regen started...Problem solved....
I posted because I wanted to get advice before I did anything to make it worse. I thought I remembered reading a thread here once that said, once it shuts down, you gotta call to have it serviced for a few thousand $ or something. I couldnt remember but, I was hoping there was a quick & easy solution for my situation..
So, again, just wanted to ask.. -
I know how you feel as I was worried about the yellow and red lights were on.
This was the first parked regen I'd ever done, to the extreme. It's my first new truck. But I winged it and it worked out fine. Usually the regen would kick in as you drive but in this case it's good to know what to do.
Glad that detroit have figured it out and works like a charm.
But if you have to do it more than once, you may have to get service involved according to the manual.
Good luck -
My understanding is that these things now wouldn't let you fire it up if it was going to severely damage anything and being a 2015 one would think even a basic warranty would cover something like this.

The 2013 I am driving has done this a few times, and I just hit the shutdown overide, as was said here a little earlier, and in nine minutes, it was done.
Now, even when it's flashing, I drive off if its time, and about 9 miles later, the lights go off.
Yeah, we idle a lot, and no one seems to want to do anything about it. BTW, I had a loaner, and that one would do a parked regen without any intervention, it was also a 2013, actually one number higher with the lease company than the one I normally drive, and some of the newer ones (2014s) do that, too.
All are FL Cascadias with DD15s. -
more companies need to go to apu's
it is the idling that loads up the exhaust
but i wouldnt freeze either -
These DPF motors are junk. They need to get rid of that and EGR and go with a strictly SCR/aftertreatment solution to meet emissions standards.

That's one advantage with a Volvo. It will run a self parked regen when needed during an extended idle.
Stuka Thanks this. -
