First I've heard, but figure it will be like most other metro areas, the locals will have it filled up in about 17 seconds while they go home every night and blocking the spaces with their personal vehicles while they are out on the job, so OTR guys won't have a prayer.

I'm sure they won't be free. In parts of midtown, you can buy a car-sized space for about $200,000, plus monthly maintenance fees. I'd expect that a space for an 18-wheeler just about anyplace in Manhattan is worth a cool half-million, and would probably rent for $10/hr.

Seems like a double-edged sword -- put off street parking that will be littered with locals and hopeless for OTR drivers so that you can crack down even harder on street parking. Then when there's any argument, they can point out the 10 legal parking spots that all 1500 trucks are expected to fit in. Don't forget to pay your triple digit toll on the way back out :)

Not this one. Been there. No one can pay enough me to ever go there again. Whether I'm in a truck or not.

Probably will just be a few lots made in the ghetto areas after they knock down and haul off the crack houses.

I've said it so many times before that all major cities should have central areas set up for distribution centers outside city limits. They should be open 24 hours 7 days a week for all deliveries. Then have local drivers pick up and deliver the goods into the cities. They don't want trucks in their neighborhoods so just make central DC'S. If these cities don't want trucks, then if we do not deliver to them problem solved. I for one will never venture near or in NYC again. It is too toll expensive, traffic congestion is beyond belief and the so called Interstate Hwys. are similar to 3rd world back roads.

My "parking proposal" would be to have an automatically declared "parking emergency" any time one or more rest areas or other legally designated lots are above 80% capacity - at which point the state DOT becomes responsible for finding or creating temporary parking (which may involve closing roads, placing barriers, overriding local restrictions, and generally doing things which may make more permanent arrangements seem reasonable), for directing drivers to these locations (and how to log it legally if out of hours), and for deploying cleanup crews the next day (although fines for drivers/companies which get caught leaving trash behind should remain applicable).
