    The difference between A and B is the GVW rating of the trailer. It has nothing to do with the GVWR of the tractor vehicle. Something like a 10 axle straight truck (maybe a logging truck with no pup) grossing 100,000lbs would be fine with a CDL-B, even with a 9,000 lb trailer behind it. A 3/4 ton pick-up hauling a 11,000 lb trailer comercially would need a CDL-A

    If there is a trailer behind that log truck I don't care if it empty that requires a CDL A. If there is no trailer it requires a CDL B with air brake endorsement or a CDL A would also be acceptable.
