Too many states are writing now. IN, KY, both of them used to not enforce it. $130 bucks now... Too many accidents and they are cracking down.

In Calif., at least near the Bay area, you just want to make sure it isn't a pickle park... 'cause that ain't a real CHP in that Village People get up. :biggrin_2554:

    Unless that's your thing.

Probably not. But with that attitude he WILL find something to write you up for. If he says "do you know why I pulled you over sir". Tell him " no officer , but I guess you must have some reason or you wouldn't have". Most of the time you will roll off scott free unless it's something glaring wrong.

Unfortunately this is one of those gray areas in trucking but as a general rule of thumb all ramps should be treated as no parking.

I absolutely loathe parking on a ramp for a break, but if I HAVE to, even if it's just to look at a map, I will use the get-on ramp and not the get-off ramp. It's SOMEWHAT safer as the traffic has turned onto the ramp and is usually moving slower than someone rocketing off the freeway and onto the ramp.

I have been parking on ramps in California since the 1970's. I have never been cited, I have never been aware of anyone being cited as long as they were parked off the pavement. That seems to be the unwritten rule. IMHO opinion you should not park (for more than a minute or two) on the pavement even if you are clear of the fog line. I regularly park & sleep at Stockdale Highway and every CHP that is leaving their station there drives right past me without a problem.

Trucks parking on the shoulder is a long accepted common practice in the state. I believe that most LEO's understand that the rest areas and truck stops could not possibly hold the volume of trucks that require parking and act in a spirit of professional cooperation. If you are parked in an obviously unsafe manner you should be treated like one of our drivers who went to sleep right on the shoulder at 5 & 138. CHP knocked on his door to write him up for the parking & asked for his log book. That got him a bigger ticket, and a 10 hour vacation which made him late for his delivery, which cost him his job (Not his first offense, plus the boss, who is a slimy little POS pr*ck, hated him) I do make sure my log is current when I park at any rest area or along the road.

The OP should find out what the offense will cost in fines & points and hire a lawyer if he has a problem with it. I will hire an attorney, or contest on my own, for any ticket I get, no matter how trivial. I figure it's just the cost of doing business under CSA 2010.
