Well I have an offer to run with Roehl. Not sure what I will do yet, but from what I have read so far about Roehl sounds pretty good. I need to review the info some more.
They have already called to setup the physical too. I told them I still have 2 weeks of class left.
All of my app info has been checked and comfirmed.

I was offered a pre-hire aswell. Roehl from what I've read the past few months is a good company. They said when my school starts they will setup a physical. Of course I'm still checking out other companies but hopefully Roehl will be what I think of it right now.

I think my biggest concern is the rumors of the low miles for drivers. Looking to see/read what the drivers have to say about miles they are getting out there with this company.
-
Well man, the way I think about it is that it provides me time to learn everything. I'd rather be only to run 61 cruise/63 pedal rather then being able to run speed limit. It allows me to build more trust in my ability to safely operate the vehicle.
As for miles, it may not be viable for you depending on how many bills you may or may not have. But for me, money isn't a huge part in my life. I'm doing this because this is something that I want to do. I've read plenty of drives who's miles vary greatly. It really depends. -
I am going to Roehl too. Starting in Marshfield August 15th. Going to national flatbed division when finished with training. I can't wait! I was supposed to start this month but some unforeseen circumstances came up. A new adventure starts soon though! See you on the road drivers!

lantern you are absolutley right, you have to learn to walk before you run. In the last four years that Ive been on the road, Ive seen a lot of accidents caused by not paying attension, excessive speed, and poor driving habits. The ones that really bother me are the accidents that happen on a clear sunny day with dry pavement!
Learn and listen while your in training and dont over drive or push the envelope just to make a on time delivery. -
I understand about the money. I am sure no one is really going to get rich driving a truck. My debt load is very low with only a house payment to deal with.
I just dont want to end up sitting somewhere out there for days with nothing to haul. I can see it does happen from time to time, I just dont want to see it happen all of the time is all. -
That is the nice thing about the hometime fleets. They can't let you sit for days, they have to get you home for the next driver. The worst for me was when they sent me out to Salt Lake City. I delivered on Saturday morning, sat all day Sunday and then they finally sent me up to Idaho on Monday just to get me rolling back to the Midwest. The problem isn't usually sitting for days, it's poor utilization of time. Things like a load delivers at 6:00, your next load doesn't pick up until two in the afternoon and is only sixty miles away. The load is only 750 miles but instead of delivering the next afternoon it doesn't deliver until the morning after. In short instead of a ten hour break you end up with a fifteen hour break.

I think alot of that is that Roehl is picking up "scraps" of freight, rather than getting the pick of good loads. I think that we are the second or third choice of carrier at alot of shippers. I think that is alot of the poor utilization. I could be wrong, but that is alot of what I have seen in my time here.

Isnt this one of those cases where you can try to call the customer and see if you can deleiver it early??
