Wondering who all you guys use for this? Is there a program you can sign up for that creates an account for you to keep records online? What kind of cost are you paying for the program? How many samples do you take and when? Any extra information would be great. Looking to do this for the life of my new truck.
Black stone labs. Been awhile. I retired and last few years have been using local cat dealer. But they will email results and show trends. Easy to read I thought
I use Webscope, it’s whatever Schaeffer uses. 3 samples come free with a 55 drum, and additional are like $10 or less. So maybe $20 a year plus a drum. Sample at every oil change approx 20k. They send a nice detailed PDF to your email and shows the last several samples to compare. Also an online account you can view all samples on. Make sure to let the oil drain before dipping the sample under. When I was new to it, I dipped it under right as I pulled the plug, and caught all sorts of garbage as it catches the sludge vs the regular oil.
I use Blackstone. I test every oil change. They just send you a report. I've got no issues. Like the other guy said though. Give it a bit before you sample....you don't want the crap. Also, I change my oil as soon as I get home. You want to do it when it's hot. So all the goodies are mixed and suspended. You don't want to wait and then have to idle your truck. That will throw off the sample. You will likely get fuel dilution that you normally wouldn't.
Does anyone use the little pump and take It out with the 1/4" hose in-between oil changes to check and see how well the oil is doing?
I don't. Seems to me that you can't help but pick up junk from the inside of the dipstick tube. I use Cat SOS. I think the sample kits are $16 each, and then there is no additional charge. They send an email PDF that includes all of the samples taken on that piece of equipment, and for whatever oil compartment you are sampling. They will get in touch with you immediately if they find something bad, and I usually get a response from them within a week of mailing the sample in. Edit to add: I don't run extended intervals. It would probably pay to sample mid-change if you intend to run longer intervals.
