When I crank my truck up in the morning, the check engine light comes on saying that engine oil temp is low. This is on a 99 freightliner Century with a Cummins N 14 Red Top. When the truck warms up, the check engine light goes off. Would this be a sign that the sensor is going bad. It also gets a higher temp reading than it usually gets. Not all the time but sometimes. The normal temp reading it has always had is right in the middle. With a heavier load, it is higher which it probably should be a little higher, I am just wondering if this is a sign. I plan on getting an oil sample but just wondering if anyone could shed some insight. Thanks

It depends what you consider as "cold". If you're talking about -20F or colder, it might be right. But if you didn't have those issues before and start your truck in the same environment like you did before, there might be a problem with the sensor or its wiring.

My meaning of cold is when I first crank it up but it did not use to do that and my oil temps did not always go that high. Normally it is right at 200 but after doing some research, I see that I have my work cut out figuring this one out. But any info is helpful, thanks. I am going to change the sensor and see if that helps.
