I had a friend who couldn't renew her regular license because another state suspended it for an unpaid speed ticket.
I don't know if she had to pay a reinstatement fee for either state.
So. It's not just commercial getting nailed.
I don't see how states can impose a fee on something they didn't issue.
Guess we learn something new.
Seems like more BS these days.

Its just a cash grab, they dont care how badly they screw people. I got my massachusetts license suspended after i switch it to nh, had to pay $500 to get a license i didn't have unsuspended otherwise my NH license would be suspended. Months before i got pulled over in NH while my mass license was suspended for inspection sticker tickets, i shouldve switched my license over a few months before. When the conviction went through mass decided they wanted some money. All this with class D license

If a state didn’t have any authority over a license it didn’t issue then people could drive however they want in every state other than their home state and suffer no consequences for their actions. If OR couldn’t do anything to you because you’re from CA then you would have had zero consequences for your two large speeding tickets and you would’ve just gone on about your day. You wouldn’t have even had to pay your fines because there’s nothing they could’ve done. So I guess that’s one reason why states can somewhat control what happens to the license of an out of state driver.gokiddogo Thanks this.

The tickets were reported to my home state and fines were paid to that state. Federal guidelines stepped in and temporarily disqualified my commercial driving. I see 2 problems with how the additional penalty was assessed:
1) California gave me 3 days' notice, unaware of where I might be or if I was within 3 days of home; and didn't assess a reinstatement fee at the conclusion of the disqualification period.
2) Oregon gave me 30 days, didn't want to agree with California on the effective dates of the disqualification, and assessed a reinstatement fee for a license it didn't even issue.
It seems that both states (the issuing state and the state where the citations were issued), should be on the same page.gokiddogo Thanks this. -
The other state may not have the authority to act outside their borders, but I think it’s more a matter of your state happily going along with whatever they’re spoon fed by the other state.
