Came across this on YT and was wondering how common is this? I currently make $19.50 hourly (OT after 40 hours) and gross a bit over $50k annually, and I thought I wasn’t doing great. Granted I live in a fairly low CoL area so it’s not as terrible as somewhere like NY or CA. And in my area unless you can get hired on hauling fuel or do food service, most of the local jobs start out at $18 hourly. But I’ll settle for these poverty wages forever before going OTR.

    Lonesome Thanks this.

Whether it is common or uncommon, if someone doesn't care enough at their life to find out about a job before they walk into it, I can't fix their problem by caring about it more than they do. In my experience, most people spend like morons, and always will, and then blame their "poverty" on the boss who isn't giving him 30% pay raise every year. Getting a company advance on your next paycheck will never fix your poverty. It will set you up for permanent "short paychecks". I've seen people with the most excuses for not working also have the most complaints about the bad paychecks. If you don't work you won't eat.

The VAST MAJORITY of drivers coming onto this forum looking for work do not ask good questions and might as well just roll the dice to reach a decision. I have no sympathy for people that are this reckless. The trucking company or the govt isn't your parent and you are not a child. Your results in life are up to you and your efforts. Nobody is going to protect you or guarantee you a good outcome. So you cannot just hope things work out.

Some people like to worry on behalf of other people. The "other people" don't know you are worrying about them. It doesn't help anyone. It's virtue signaling.

If you're making $300 weekly it's because you're a stupid person. And there's a bunch of them out there.

I’ve seen these slumlord companies, with 1 or 2 trucks, where they will run the truck so tightly that the drivers can’t idle the trucks and have the fuel to make the delivery. The drivers will do $300/week or less. These are the absolute bottom of the barrel drivers running for the bottom of the barrel companies. They’re so broke they can’t quit or pay for a ride home.
