A guy just went by in a super sleeper with a 53 dry van with his tandems set at like 42 feet. I'm in California. I didn't have time to flag him down. This guy obviously didn't get that truck by being a moron. Is there a way to circumvent Californian's 40 foot law? Can he buy a permit? Thanks
no way to circumvent the kingpin law in California by permit unless the axles are fixed and you bring an oversized load justifying the trailer dimensions (think lowboy trailer with long well). You can then get a permit to leave the state empty legally. if the trailer was a 48’ obviously the 40’ doesn’t apply.
So, after pondering this over my Cracker Barrel breakfast, it would be possible to load a non divisible load requiring the protection of a 53’ trailer and have it distribute weight such that you would need to run the axles farther back than 40’. This would require oversize permits but I guess would be technically possible. But never seen it actually done.
well I have been in the shop for 3 weeks waiting on warranty parts. So, I am at home enjoying the windy AZ coolness and …. Cracker Barrel
