Here is what I was referencing,

guys used to get in trouble by running spread axle 48’ with the axles all the way to the back (versus the mythical CA spread)

because the spread axle counts as 2 single axle rather than one 2 axle group, the kingpin to axle becomes 38’ rather than 40’ on non-STAA routes in California

I see what you're saying, but from what it says, that applies to 53' trailers, not 48' "The semitrailer is not more than 53 feet in length, with two or more rear axles and a maximum 40' KPRA, or with a single axle and a maximum 38-foot KPRA." The KPRA is in the same sentence as 53' not 48'.

Yea I get that. But his axles were probably 42 or 43 feet to the center of back axle.

The whole question is there away to circumvent the 40 foot bridge law?

Well if so then yes he is in violation. And no you can't. California is a real pita about that. I run a 53 with set axles at the 40` mark. My tractors wb is 324. Because I have a 9` deck my kingpin is only 24" under the trailer. My overall length is 86` BTW I based in comefornia

Some of the parts are available but the dealers don’t want to spend the effort to find them

my neighbor has a new W900
Had about 10k miles on it and it started running bad.
Took it to the nearest stealership who diagnosed it as a bad injector harness and said ; “we don’t have one , going to be 2 weeks to get it “

he asked for the part number so he could look for one , and magically in just a few
Minutes , the lazy folks at the KW stealership found a harness at the peterbilt stealership a few miles away and sent a parts runner to go get it .

they were too lazy to pick up the phone and start calling to find the part .

If I were still driving , there is no way I’d have a truck with any kind of computer on it.
    They just break down al
The time and leave you sitting , losing money .

sire an older truck with no computer uses more fuel . But a newer
Truck will cost you in downtime . So it balances out .

Bean Jr. and cke Thank this.
