There are so many unique situations in the area of Oversize/ Overweight we should have a thread to input some of them. An example would be signing your Alabama permit with RED ink, or the fact that Louisiana expects your truck to be pro-rated at 88,000, not 80,000. If you are pro-rated for 80,000 you get fined because they issue OS/ OW permits starting at 88,000. North Carolina only allows 60,000 for a quad axle group but if your axle # 3 can be lifted and the distance from #2 to #4 is 8 feet, they give you 75,000. Illinois requires you have their regulations document in your truck for their permit to be valid.
    Anyone else have some tips?

Always sign your Colorado permit before you go into the scalehouse to show it. They will tear it up if they want to.
Many states require regulation documents to be in the drivers possesion or the permit is not valid.

Each state has their own little rules.
Ga. You need to sign in BLUE ink.
Wa. state says sign it in any color ,but BLACK.
    Yes. Al. says RED ink.
Some states like Superload stated have different weight rules.
Nothing is really uniform with oversize and weight lds.

Some states if really big will state night moves only..

You never looked that close? If it is supposed to be signed at the botttom it better be the DRIVERS signature on it. Illinois and Ohio permits dont have to be signed, but Minnesota and Indiana do. It all depends on the state.

And have a good map for Pennsylvania because some of the roads that they put you on are not marked in a Motor Carriers Atlas.

Just reading the routing on a PA permit can be a challenge, read all the comments on the routing or you may something important, like which bridge to ramp.

Have a plan on where you are going to stop for the night, don't get caught out after shutdown time, even if you have to stop early.

Arkansas is sunrise / sunset, not one half before and after, they will enforce it, all Georgia scale know what time Sunset is and don't try and cheat, it is their favorite easy ticket.

Allways load dozers with the blade to the back, about half the states require it and will make you turn it around after they write the ticket.
