I posted on a thread where a Landstar driver received a 67000$ ticket for this same thing......

Edit to add: actually he was over axle and not over gross. This was on a 190k lb load. And no doubt that scale will be open.....Now whether they check your permit or not is a gamble. Its not unmanned but, the scale master is on the other side of the highway.

I got a $9700 ticket from Virginia. I have studied the rules regarding this closely. I was 12” under what the permit listed as minimum wheelbase. Chances are he was over the max allowed on the axle group, not just over what he permitted for.

I should also state. They settled the 9700 for $500. Those big numbers are mostly BS and they will settle for a reasonable price, but a lot of that depends on you.

Is that something you would have to fight in court?

Since it makes it a super load it would most likely have to go to review. So I’m not sure if it would get delivered the next day.

    post an update

They said about 3 days. So I found a secure location and dropped my load/trailer and came home for the
    weekend.

Good deal. Just curious I know NC has been extremely slow on there permits as well. I’m loaded and waiting myself to go to Norfolk port and I’m OW. Thanks for the heads up
