So I have my own truck and currently leased to a company than runs northwest reefers, been with them for 6 months, going to hop on with a different company next week.
My question is, is it worth it to get my own plate? Or just use the company's plate? The past companies I was leased with, I used their plates. Just would like to have my own in case I decide to get my own authority which I probably will end up anyways.
Own base plate while leased?

If they cover the plate and don't charge you back for it just run their plate. If they deduct from settlements to cover that cost then they are likely charging a premium and you'd probably save several hundred dollars getting it yourself. They're not difficult to get if you need one but again go with whatever is cheapest.

Don't you have to run your own ifta if you run your own plate.

They're charging 40 a week out of settlement. I'm gonna give mn DMV a call see what my cost will be.

What state are you in?

Minnesota

Well there you have it. Looks like you'll save yourself $320 if you DIY instead of the convenience of having them provide one.

Do you have a town tax to register a motor vehicle in MN ? Not sure...
My state does , and that cost isn't on that web site. It's for IRP plate cost only. And they won't give you those without the town tax receipt .Last edited: Apr 5, 2016
