So I just saw this post in the looking for drivers section. Would you say it’s legit for them to do 1099? Says 1 week vacation after 1 year. Does that sound like a contractor?

There could be a grey area. In theory, a real "driver for hire" contractor would be a CDL holder who one week works for one carrier and another week for someone else without any strings attached. That's not very practical per FMCSA hiring guidelines (drug tests, work history etc).
The closest are the seasonal drivers coming here from overseas for a few months then they go back. Another could be dump truck drivers finding a temporary work in a slow Winter season.

I am not going to get into the legalities argument, but if I was driving for 15 to 1700 a week on a w2, and someone offered 2500 a week on a 1099, I would sure take a hard look at it, and furnish my own workmans comp to boot if needed. What I would not even think about doing is sueing the company if I got hurt after I agreed to working without it, nor to pay my taxes.

I once interviewed years ago a man who ships classic cars to Florida with trucks that were unlimited.

I had absolutely no experience with car carriers then and it would have been a fiasco. Wisely made the choice to stick to what I know.

To this day I don't think it would have been worth it for 150 mph service to Miami with a load of cars then. Its just too much.

I have a 5am Tuesday into NC. Pretty decently inland but starting to wonder about it.

South Carolina will reverse I-26 completely starting 8 am tomorrow. THAT goes into NC. Spartansburg to be particular on up. (26 is a excellent mountain highway for me but... it's been decades.)

    I 16 reverses Tuesday Morning.

People are being told OUT of Jacksonville all the way down to Palm Beach in the morning.

    The great exodus.

In Bahamas they are with clothes on back exposed to the full storm and no out. Not until at least noon tomorrow. God will decide if they will live to see tomorrow. The hurricane is sawing them both ways all the way across slowly and surely, drowning those who tried to access stronger buildings like ants fleeing a flooded anthill.
