I've been driving for a little more than a year now (November 2018 - February 2020, flatbed, 150,000+ miles) but now I find myself in a precarious situation. I was able to become debt free during that time and save a decent amount of money but after applying to other companies I now realize just how bad my MVR stands. I have 3 non-recordable DOT incidents and one citation (driving past a road barrier) and now it's hard to find anyone willing to hire me for insurance reasons.

I thought about being and owner operator before I left my last company but I just wanted to know, would becoming and O/O make me more hireable (if I had my own insurance, authority, etc.) or just an idiot throwing money down the drain?

I'm in Texas and was looking to haul frac sand or something but also recently obtained my tanker and hazmat endorsements.

    bad-luck Thanks this.

IMO you are too green to be going O/o. ESPECIALLY right now. I'd ask @Chinatown for some suggestions on companies that would hire you. But location is needed.

Forget the oilfield. It's toast right now.
Forget owner op, they're toast right now.
Just stay at the job you have now.

Or did you quit your job that you saved all this
Money with, then realized you couldn't get another job.
Now is not the time to be job hunting or buying trucks.

to some extent I think it is because trucking is always needed. As goods always have to be moved. So people are worried that they'll be out of work forever in their current industry and want to fall back to what is more secure. Though for most this is a bone headed move. IMO

Yeah but ppl think this job so easy. "All u do is drive!" . Im sure swift and cr england is ramping up their schools to pump em out faster than ever. All that does is create more dingbats on the road that have no business being in a 80k pound missle

Is your MVR bad or your DAC bad?
www.OOIDA.com is a business website for the 0/0.
Probably can't be insured right now as an 0/0.
Which city/town are you near in Texas?

    Rideandrepair Thanks this.

Non-recordable means it never happened in my book. OP should find a smaller company that doesn’t use hire-right the jerkoffs they are......

Driving past a barrier tell them you were making a del to a construction sight and the cop was a douch and gave you the ticket anyways....besides if it was a road closed sign you gotta do what you gotta do. These days it’s a whole new world .
