I have even tested a Chinese Foton (Renault or Cummins powerd) truck.
Cheap to buy but not for me.
We are lucky in that our emission laws are a few years behind you guys so we don't have to have the all the crap yet.
The truck sales men actually try to convince you that they are better on fuel and want to sell us the latest.
We have cars and trucks from all over the world tested here because of our vast differences in temperature and altitude with in a days travel on good roads.
Cat was a big player up to the early 80's but lost almost all their market share to Cummins between then till about 2005.
I think the last cats were sold in Freighliners earlier this year.
Detroit only started to gain market share here in the late 80's with the series 60.
They had major problems due to high sulfur diesel used then.
They got that sorted though.
The Jap UD (Nissan) trucks have been really reliable and good on all fronts but their cabs are to small even by European standards.
Cummins is good here because they are cheap (Relative) , simple and never any parts availability issues.
Purchase price aside , the best all round engine has to be a V8 Scania though.
I don't and have never owned one but have operated them.
The only issue is that they are on the heavy side and are expensive.
Cost of maintenance per mile is one of the lowest if serviced properly.
If their trucks were better priced I would have them over any thing else available.
It is to early for me to really rate the MX as they have only been here about 3 years but so far they have treated me well.
