    I went back to paper because I like to only keep the previous 7 days in my book for DOT. I never give more than the absolute minimum the law requires.

    That's what I do too, specially that I am at home terminal at least once a week. But even if they went back further in my laptop everything will be FINE.That program simply won't let you make ANY mistakes re 10s,14s,34s,70s etc. It's freaking awesome!

    KeepTruckin' even does the split sleeper for those who understand how to use it. I just wish it only went back 7 days instead of 14. Or at the very least give the user the option between the two.

    @JimmyWells & @diesel drinker

    Let me see if I understand ya'll correctly.

    I bought a 1998 truck that already has the 6-pin connector.

    I have the option of :
    • (A) -> Go 100% paper (which might be advantageous in some peoples minds), ...or
    • (B) -> Go 100% e-logs using the bluetooth connection dongle (which kills the "fudge factor")

    I was also under the impression that as of Dec,2017...these "app-based" elogs will not function without an actual connection.

    Are you guys saying that having a printer will allow me to play both sides?

    I am saying that I do log book in my laptop (which is only connected to printer when I need to print a page) just like I did it in paper log book.It saves me some time,I can't (it wont let me) make a mistake and it looks much more neat as compared to traditional log book.

    Why are you printing your logs everyday?

    I've been using BigRoad for 2 years. I've had several inspections during that period and have never once been asked to produce a paper copy of my last 7 days.

    I have an onboard printer as well just in case. However, if asked to produce paper, I would just print 7 out then.

    If you have a pre 2000 exemption, there's nothing that would preclude you from using an app like BigRoad without being connected to the ECM.

    I don't want them to mess with my computer so I always have at least 7 printed pages which I give them without being even asked.I would still need to print it for my company may as well do it every day.

    Well, you don't even need to mess with your computer, your smartphone is a computer ;-)

    I use a printing app right from my phone. Turn on mobile hotspot, connect the printer via bluetooth and print away ;-)

    I wouldn't want them to mess with my phone even more. Company provided me with laptop and printer so it's all good.
