so somebody who isnt me (swim) recently graduated from a company sponsored training school and earned his class A license. swim is supposed to go to the terminal and embark on a month long training program with a driver/ trainer. however, he hasnt reported to the terminal just yet.
now swim has every intention of paying the company back for his schooling but he is considering joining a different company. he is paranoid that the first company will mess with his DAT record or try to go after his license (which is an interim license and was obtained via an "employer sponsored" exam).
has anyone heard of a major carrier wasting their time with this kind of stuff? is swim paranoid?
paranoia?

If you wanted to be anonymous you could have just not uploaded a prof pic
He needs a copy of his agreement with the company.
As far as his CDL, is he licensed or is this his permit?
Sounds like his permit - so he doesn't even have a CDL to lose yet. Would suck to have to pay a company 4-6 grand for that. Stick it out, get your actual real life in your hands tangible license. Then quit if you must. -
Is there something behind you?
-
It is DAC not DAT.
If he has his license he can go anywhere he chooses to go. That doesn't mean some other company will hire him. He can be sued for the money that the first company says they put out for his training. At the very least they will hire a collection agency to get their money. That will ruin his credit. But you can overcome that in 7 years.
I would tell him to honor his commitment to the first company, because it is the right thing to do. Honor means something to me. Unless it has to do with getting laid. Then all bets are off.Keep'em 18roll;ng, Pure.Genius, Kev's Sunshine and 3 others Thank this. -
no, its a real CDL class A license. he had his permit, went to training, took a cdl test and received a license from the DMV. its just a piece of paper because the hard copy
comes in the mail. so you are saying that you've never heard of a company retailiating against new drivers who jump ship? thats what i got from your reply
And im not trying to be anon becauae its for a friend.....but whats a prof pic? profile pic? -
right, DAT. tanyway, he intends to pay it off but he could make more money elsewhere. thanks for the reply.
oh. and another thing, the ageeements these students sign require reimbursement whether or not you work for them. so its not really un honorable to just leave them. but he is worried they might lie -
wtf does that mean haha?
-
If you think the company isn't going to come after him for the cost of the school you are sadly mistaken. I agree with Wooly. He needs to honor his obligation.
-
dude i stated in my original post that he intends to pay the school back per the agreement. however he is
paranoid that the company is going to retailiate. he recalls hearing/reading that companies can be serious D's to drivers and i told him id ask on here. -
Why are drones following me?!
