Thanks to all for lots of great comments, suggestions, ideas, warnings, threats, finger-wagging..etc!!;)
And thanks to all for not decending into "partisan rancor"....or infighting.
What is hyper obvious is that EVERY company is different and therefore there are many many different experiences. That is exactly what I expected to find here. The company Im considering is TWT outta Spokane. I dont mind saying who it is. I dont work for them yet and even so, Im not bashing anyone. If there are any TWT drivers that would like to "school" me...please feel free to PM/messg me.
The thing is, I drove back "in the day"before cell phones and internetz. Paper logs and "drive till you drop". So Im trying to wrap my head around these new HOD rules etc. while at the same time listen to recruiters speak with forked tongues. I'll paste below the exact wording from the company docs but also know that the so-called recruiter is telling me at a 100 miles per min what it all means and "how it works". What I understood from him is that they will get you home ONCE in 14days out...but not every 7 or so. To me that means possible reset on the road. Am I wrong? And as for "managing my time"....As a couple of you pointed out, WE are not the Masters of Our Domain!

This is from TWT Reefer division only: (thats all they run, with a few drops i guess) Feel free to pick it apart. Im still looking at other shops.Nothing decided yet.

""3 axle Flat Rate Pay Based on (verifiable) Experience:
    0-1 year Driver = 0.47
    1 year plus Driver = 0.50
Additional pay: • Stop Pay $ 20.00 for all intermediate stops • Hourly Pay $ 15.00 per hour with fleet manager approval • Layover $ 150.00 per day • Detention $ 15.00 per hour after 2 hours
EXPECTATIONS • 2,400 miles or more per week • Home after a minimum of 14 days out with 1 day off for every 1 week out (maximum of 5 days off for 5 weeks out unless using a week of accrued vacation pay) • Time off must be requested 7 days prior & approved by your driver manager • Extended time off (vacation/special events) must be requested 2 weeks prior & approved by your driver manager • Primary lanes: WA, OR, ID, CA""

Exactly. Flatbed runs on daylight hours typically. Reefer in food has lots of midnight receivers and reefer LTL especially so because they get delivery at specific hours and load at other times

If i was OTR I'd rather run my 70 out in 5 days and take 2 off instead of running recaps

You will rarely burn through your 70 in 5 days running OTR, unless you intentionally waste hours. I run lots of long haul. 1500-2000 mile loads. You need to utilize all of your available hours to turn maximum miles. I can run out my 70 in 7 days and take a 34. Never in 5 days

I've done it in 5, and was exhausted, but typically I need my reset day 6 or 7. It doesn't help when you run just in time freight with a few short hops and safety wants to see minimum 15 minutes loading/ unloading.

    Trucking companies do this:
Announce that they’ll pay you for almost everything.
While trying to get out of actually paying it to you other then miles. And even those are calculated on strange ways to give said company a fat discount. Lol

The last company I worked for told me it was $125 daily for three days of boring orientation. I was coming on as a part time driver at 80% of what a full time driver drives already conceding bonuses, raises, benefits etc. well ok no orientation pay on my first check...”because you’re part time.” Me? I was here three days like everyone else, pay me or meet the labor board....they paid me, $375 crisp ones.

let ANY trucking company walk on you? And guess what? THEY WILL!!!!
Part of being a professional driver is standing up for yourself.

Pay should be the same as every other industry. Hourly or percentage.
CPM made sense before digital logs came around. Not anymore. If a driver is being lazy in CA his boss can tell it in NY. GPS and e-logs have made CPM obsolete.

Many construction jobs are Piece Work. I personally like the CPM model. If I turn more miles than the next driver, I make more money. Just my.$.02

Some companies pay for a 34 reset and many others don't. My tanker job paid me $125 X 2 when a 34 reset was necessary. That company considered it 2 layover days. I think it's the only company I worked for that paid for a 34. Even if it was pretty standard for many companies to pay you during a 34 hours reset, that doesn't obligate any other company to pay you if you happen to pick a company that doesn't pay. If it's important, toss out all companies that don't pay. You won't likely change the company policy after you hire on.
