Depending on who you go to work for , you'll make enough. You said your making 12.00 an hour now , assuming you work a 40 hr. week that's $480 a week or 1920 a month. Just be aware that you'll be making more than that after training with almost any carrier , even the mega's. Your child support should go up by a certain % once that happens. That $700 figure could go up a substantial amount as it should. Just be ready. But to answer your initial question you'll make more than you are now....(after training).... but you'll still make enough to pay your child support and live. Good Luck......

nice post, I couldn't do what your doing,i have to be in my kids lives..What I got from his question was if he couldn't pay child support and still make a living why would he even go OTR? but child support payments shouldn't even be part of the equation, you gotta take care of yours no matter what ,right?

You have to consider the child support equation. You can't be expected to live as a pauper and eat out of a dumpster to pay the man.

I am in my kids lives though. I see them every time I come in to town. I'm usually home every week. I've spent my vacation at her house being Mr mom for my brats while she's at work training out of town.

Let me tell you that while I love my kids to death, I kinda miss my truck!

Man I feel for all you guys paying support. I did for 16 years , $160 a week then lowered to $119 a week for the remaining 13 years I was lucky in the fact that she didn't take me back to court, I also bought items for the kids. It was 14 years ago that the state took my last check. sum states base it on net wages sum on Gross, . Looking back the time will fly bu. Biggest expense on the road , FOOD . Just starting out ? many companies give you a lot of miles at a low rate per mile . then as you mileage rate goes up cut back on the miles., You should make minimum a grand , $1000 a week on the road . anything less sucks .. good luck

All depends on the state and the judgement. Some families agree to a fixed amount instead of a percentage. However, this would be a good reason to take the company per diem. That way if you make more it gives you the control over the extra rather than the government controlled child support system. You can always pay a little extra if you want.
