As the title would suggest I have a pc68xl that is having issues receiving and transmitting.

If I turn the RF gain all the way up and the squelch all the way down I do not receive any static whatsoever. Occasionally with those knob set that way I will hear somebody but it's as if they are coming and going as they're talking. No one can hear me. My SWR power meter has me at 2.0/2.5, not great I know but I should get something there. It also shows that I am putting out right at 4 Watts.

I just replace the coax cable because the end seems loose to me. I have a Wilson 2000 antenna. I tried another radio, a cheap cobra that had the same results.

    Any help would be appreciated

You are losing ground. Make sure your mount is tight, and there is a plastic washer at the bottom of the antenna that fits into the antenna bracket.

    SBECK Thanks this.

Thanks for the response Shogun, I just took the mounting adapter off, used a wheel and cleaned the underside surface to bare metal, it already was but I cleaned it up a little anyway. I'll attach a picture so you see what kind of Mount I'm using. The plastic washer on this one goes on the top side to separate them, and everything seems to be in order there. But the problem persists

It might be the coil in the antenna. Sometimes corrosion gets inside the coil from rain. Did you verify that the mount is showing good ground testing it with a multimeter?

With a multimeter I'm reading .1 ohms from the ground base on the mount to the chassis ground. Seems like we might be heading towards replacing the antenna?

This is on a Ford F450 mechanic's truck, the antenna is mounted on the bed. Unfortunately I do not have a spare antenna laying around

As long as the mount is on metal, it should be good. Paint scraped under the mount is ideal, but not always necessary. No plastic bed liner in between. Unless both pieces of coax you tried are bad, it’s the antenna. When using a coil antenna for future reference, try to get the coil over the roof. You can try to take the coil apart and clean it if it’s old, it might help. If not, I would either get at least a 5 foot Firestick, skip shooter or Wilson Silverload with the tuneable tip.

I'll go pick one up in the next day or so.

    Thank you
