Don't take the per diem package . If you don't take it you can claim per diem the end of the year . It's 80% of $50 ($40) for eligible days in U.S. . Days in Canada are a higher rate . If you don't have a mortgage the per diem amount will be higher than the standard deduction and allow you to itemize and claim other deductions also .

If you take per diem .10 of the .27 is not taxed and will show on your w2 at the end of the year as a bonus and lower your gross pay for the year. This in turn make it look like you will make less money than you actually do which can make it harder to get a loan in the future if you need to.

yes as was stated earlier you are better off taking straight pay and taking the per diem at the end of the year on your own

ok,i get it now.in construction per diem is added after your gross pay.
the way is was just explained would also hurt your social security (if there is any left anyway) when it comes time to retire.

so why is millis (pushing) the per diem package with extra vacation?what do they get out of it?

Lower share of Social Security Tax. Lower cost for workmen's compensation insurance.

Believe me, no company does something for the benefit of the driver.

as roadmedic pointed out it is cheaper for them in as they contribute less taxes on the money you make
