Not a driver yet.Wondering if you become a company driver,do you usually have the same truck everyday?Id be more comfortable "knowing" my truck.also wonder about keeping your personal items in your truck. If you are always getting switched to another truck, then ya gotta keep swapping your personal stuff too.Im talking about long hauls I guess.Im trying to put myself in the drivwers seat as much as possible to get a better understanding of what the life of a driver is like. Thanks

as a company driver you have the same truck everyday and your stuff generally stays in it. you talk the truck home with you for time off. what little there is. when slip sitting is involved that usually means you have more than 2-3 days off at a time and somebody else drives that truck and when you come back too work it's a different truck.

It makes perfect sence to me that they want to keep a particular truck on the road and making money. So I understand the part where you get a new truck after you go home for a break.I dont know what slip sitting is though. Please explain. Thanks

More than one driver. They take turns with the truck. Not teams. Kind of like having a stranger living in your house!:toothy5:

Multiple drivers using the same truck. One guy drives it on days, another guy behind the wheel on night shift. More common in the LTL world than in the truckload part of the industry.

LTL is less Than Truckload, like ABF, Roadway, Estes, other companys that do deliveries on a daily basis. truckload is loading the entire trailer at one point and taking it to another.

slip seating is where you and 1 or 2 other drivers share like 2 trucks. biggest downfall in my opinion is you really don't know who they are and one of them could be a nasty slob and you have to drive that truck that way or clean it out before you go driving. i am not to big on the slip seating thing. i just like to know the truck and what it can do (fuel mileage and horse power wise and how it drives). they all drive a little differnet in someway or the other. i just feel more comfortable if i know my truck.

Im leaning toward the truckload thing then.I dont need to be "home"never really had one.Wont miss family either, they are the very static I will be happily away from.No kids unfortunately and dont give a hoot where I go.Just like goin.I see posts about local and it doesnt interest me in the least. When I need a break,I will take it wherever I am.Im sure Ill want to see family once in a while, but its usually help me help me calls on the phone anyway.Itll be nice not to ear from some of them.....ok....most of them.ha.Dont get me wrong,I love them but from a distance is soooo nice.Left the dang country once and they still tracked me down.Misery loves company I guess.Im looking forward to learning more cuz the more I am learning here, the more I think its for me!Thanks gentlemen.
