My first significant driving job involved small sleeper FLD120 Freightliners.
I think they were bought that way new because of the export market for used trucks, probably 42 inch flat top. I drove them for 15 months, and once I got used to it, it wasn't that bad. You absolutely, positively, couldn't stand up in 1, though.
They were nicknamed coffins, and the joke was 'there ain't no windows in a coffin,' and there weren't, once you closed that curtain tight, it was very dark inside, and the heat and AC had no trouble keeping the temp constant if the HVAC under the bunk was working right. That bunk was very narrow, though.
They were a far cry from a 70 inch condo, or the 75 inch stratosphere skylight I have temporarily in the Western Star.Last edited: Jul 23, 2008

I looked at a Pete COE last winter, it had a Cat that no longer had any paint on it, only Cat motor I had ever seen that rusty before was on an original D9 that had caught fire.
I'm not sure what model it was but it had to be older than a 372. It was very tight inside, the seat had to be well suspended or it would pinch your hand against the shifterLast edited: Jul 23, 2008

I remember reading they got 10-11mpg with a 425 CAT, now imagine a E model or even a 12.7 detroit. The B model wasent exactly efficient. 5mpg loaded and 5.2 empty

Dont feel like the lone ranger MM I'm also "closet cab-over lover" I'm partial to the GMC astro or the IH specially if it had a CAT in it. Yea call me a SICKOO.

sound like an old 352 which could be 70's to mid 80's. if it had three windshield wipers and was about 80 feet tall then it was a 362.
the petes were the best riding coe's from what I hear. they had a habit of the doghous cracking away from the front of the body so if you look at old ones check that seam on it. -
the petes and kw's were the best looking but them internationals had them all beat hands down in comfort. you get a flat floor international standup and them things were HUGE inside. the freightliners were second in that department. only problem with the flat floor internationals is that 95% of them were that set back axle, school buss looking things. if you can find a flat floor with the regular forward axle it would be something to have. I almost bought one from ebay the same day I found my 359 and bought it instead.
My dads first truck was a 1973 pete 352 single bunk coe. I remember toolin all over the country in that thing. it had a 903 V8 cummins with a 13 direct turned into a double over. it was a dog but it looked cool -
I think our age is showing. "Yup" I do believe we are becoming "OLD TIMERS" all we need now is a couple of rocking chairs and a porch.

I know where there is a rare freightliner powerliner cabover with a cummins KTA 600 for a good price!!! just need a paintjob and some interior. price is right but I like the regulare FS coe more then the powerliner. But I guarantee you won't see many others at the shows. actually there is a nice 80's fs coe for sale too with a fresh big cam but they are proud of it, to the tune of like $20k but it is super sharp -
Yeah that powerliners been restored too, just need a paint job and off ya go. Think he was willing to go as low as 11k. It had a 525hp KTA though, if its the one on the other site your talking bout.
