i have a question regarding a driverside steer axle leaf spring on a 1988 379,i snapped one and got a new one to put in, i noticed that the new speing had 3 pieces of metal on top of it and the driverside broken spring had 1 piece of metal above it and 2 below it, but the passenger side has 3 above it like the new spring, should i just put it in as is or switch plates aroud?

Your other 2 plates appear to be on the bottom.
Maybe someone did some custom leveling?
I'd be changing the springs out for a balanced pair....... -
yes there are on the bottom on 1 side , agreed they shoukd be replaced in pairs but could only get ahold of one at the moment,if i put my new spring in it will match the other side, iv just herd of alighnment shops sometimes doing things like this for road curvature
-
I would put the spring in as it is to match the other side with the blocks on top. This is the correct Installation.
Dino soar, Rideandrepair and tj379 Thank this. -
ya i think so to , just wanted second opinion , thanks for the help goodysnap!
Goodysnap Thanks this. -
All that does is make your stop closer to the frame doesn’t participate in any of the spring action!
tj379 Thanks this. -
Yes aligment shops will try to compensate for the road crown, I would put it on as is an observe how it sits and drives. Ultimately though it should go to an alignment shop.
tj379 Thanks this.
