I have a 91 Peterbilt 357 that I can’t charge the AC on. My problem is it’s a R12 system and nobody charges R12 anymore. I bought my own r12 refrigerant off eBay to charge the system but the other issue I’m running into is I can’t find any charge ports on my lines. The only ports I was able to find were on the back of the compressor labeled discharge and suction. Can I charge the system from these two ports? I’ve just never came across the service ports being on the back of the compressor.

You need a port installed on each hose. Any A/C shop should be able to install if you take the lines to them.

Much more convenient to switch to 134 though, but ports will still need to be added.

You use the ports on compressor. All the r12 units were that way. Works the same. Doesn’t matter where they are. Only problem you may have is needing adapter ports for quick connect hose. Auto parts store should have them. Inter dynamics has a kit, includes a can of ester oil, and 2 adapters for ports on compressor, and 4 cans of 134a to convert to r134a. Next time either convert it, or buy a new compressor and lines. R12s too expensive not to.

Be careful because the change line can go on the hi or suction side, so be sure you are conn. to the suction side of compressor, You must have a old type r/12 line to add more of the r/12 type, if its empty 2 or 3 cans of r/12 and 1 can of oil, should bring it back to blowing cold again,

    Rideandrepair Thanks this.
