I ran a search and nothing came up so I hope this is the right place for this. Can anyone tell me what the anti-idling laws are if you have a pet in the truck? I have read many posts that seem to say the laws don't apply if you do have a dog with you, but I can't find any deffinate answers, just oppinions. Maybe I just don't want to believe that it has gotten so crazy that my dog has more protection than me! Thanks for any input!:biggrin_25519:

So all I need to not freeze in NY or sweat in CA is my hound? Does the "interested" officer need to see the dog or will her barcking at him/her be enough? Geez, what has this world come to? Not against animal protection from nut jobs etc.( you know NFL players) but more rights than their owners? What's next? No, don't answer that, I don't want to know ahead of time, it will only make it worse!

:biggrin_25513:I always thought that was kinda messed up. I can sit and sweat in the heat, or freeze my butt off. But if I have a dog, cat or parakeet, I can idle my truck and run the A/C or the Heater. What's wrong with this picture?

thank peta (people for the ethical treatment of animals) and other left wing groups who would make it a capital offense for eating meat. i say bring on the 32 oz strips and all the leather i can wear. as far as idling goes, these days id rather get an apu if i was an o/o cost to savings is hugely infavor of installing one.

There are no exclusions for pets. You can read the laws. There are people that think there is but there are no exceptions.

However, you might get in trouble with the pet and high heat.

This states you cannot idle with a pet.

MYTH 2: YOU CAN IDLE ILLEGALLY TO PROTECT A PET.
Thirteen states have animal cruelty laws that prohibit leaving pets in too-hot or too-cold vehicles, and all states have more general animal protection laws that ban abuse.

Additionally, dozens of cities, counties or states have anti-idling laws, with fines as high as $25,000. But you can’t break no-idle laws to keep your pet safe.

“One law would not supersede the other,” says Belinda Mager of the U.S. Humane Society. “You would have to comply with both laws.”

Enforcement of a penalty might come down to whether a judge is more pro-animal or more anti-idling, speculates Dr. Richard Crawford of the Animal Welfare Information Center. But there is no reason to expect mercy. While animal cruelty laws can be stringent — New York levies a maximum $1,000 fine — the smart owner-operator won’t risk breaking either law
