My son (23) is a new cdl holder since last October '24. He seems to be having problems getting a job because of a felony evading arrest conviction from 2021. Anyone know of any company willing to give a new driver a chance. He's hearing "it has not been 7yrs" a lot from recruiters. Is that a real thing?
There's no restrictions on his license and he reports by phone every 3 months
We're in Dallas TX .
Please Help My Son

Can he legally leave the state while driving a truck?
~
Tell him to submit the applications off each website before calling.
Submit the app. then follow up with a phone in a day or two. Say, {I'm checking on my driving job application.}Last edited: Jan 10, 2025

Don't be too hard on him -- it's a tough job market out there right now anyway for CDL holders -- but especially those with no previous CDL experience.
With that said -- here's another carrier that takes/trains beginner drivers -- & hires felons....on a case-by-case basis:
May Trucking -- takes both experienced & inexperienced drivers

Another carrier...that normally accepts/trains students/novice drivers....& has a history of hiring felons...on a case-by-case basis:
Maverick Transportation
Maverick in particular....is an outstanding opportunity to learn flatbed duty -- for the right kind of person.
As the above link shows -- their hiring area includes the DFW area.

I am not positive, but I think that Labatt Food Service hires felons on a case by case basis. I imagine he would be home every day doing that job. They I think have insurance benefits that are effective day one. Labatt Food Service
MikeStamina, Suspect Zero and Chinatown Thank this.
