    Aspiring truckers,

It doesn't matter if you intend to do Van, Refrigerated, Tanker, Flatbed, you name it...

Make sure you have your own hard hat ( $10 at home depot ), safety glasses ( $3 ) , long pants, long shirt, and boots/closed toe footwear of some sort.

You never know when you might need any of these items especially the hard hat and safety glasses as the clothing most folks should have on board even though its summer time.

I was at a shipper today, which serves primarily flatbedders and this poor Van driver ( looked to be pretty green ) shows up unprepared with only sandals, shorts, and a tee-shirt...

That wasn't flying with the shipper... They ended up loaning him Hard hat, safety glasses, slip on boots, pants, and a long sleeve shirt...

Don't be that guy... You have no idea who in the world has been wearing that nasty stuff. :puke::puke::puke::puke:

The safety glasses one always gets me. I must have bought like 70 pair of safety glasses in the last 2 years and somehow i can never find them. Most places usually dont mind regular sunglasses but some of those steel mills want clear ones cuz its hard to see inside since its so dark.

Agree. I was getting loaded with plastic pipe in Utah at a small yard. I see another flatbed driver upset with an employee. They were refusing to load him because he did not have a hard hat. I was willing to loan him mine after I got loaded and was willing to wait until he got loaded so I could get my hat back but he was so mad he just drove off.
Many loads require PPE - hardhat, steel toes, vest, safety glasses, gloves, long sleeves & pants and more frequently - a face mask.

The hard hat one is kind of a no brainer. Especially if ur getting loaded/unloaded with an overhead crane. Which is like the majority of the time it seems like . U would think thats flatbed 101 . Hard hat safety vest and long pants. Not rocket science, but some guys just dont get it
