    If you read my reply you will see i said nothing aout Jakes or APU's,... I wrote defects. I also quantified the post by saying "unsafe" trucks. You took my post totally out of context.

    No, I do not believe I took your posting out of context. the content of this particular tread was an APU not working and the jakes not working, and how the o/p hates the truck and the company, clearly not safety issues, but clearly a noob driver issue. You interjected the safety issue, which could have been better served up in a thread where something like safety was an issue.

    To make notes either on paper or on the QUALCOMM regarding this threads content, would be better served to take to the boss when giving the 2 week notice, which then, said boss will gladly show the exit door to a cry baby noob..

    And to further your posting, to inform the noob of the whistle blower act to the employer, do you realistically think the employer will just sit there and take that or again, show her the exit door??? That in of itself is a threat to the company they will not tolerate from a noob.

    If there is ONE THING YOU HAVEN'T LEARNED, is you DO NOT give your company a heads up you're about to report them. How dumb is that..???

    I think the real issue here is a rookie driver that didn't really check out the company she just hired onto, and expected way more than was reality. The lesson to take from this is, when you are interviewing for a company, make sure it goes both ways. You should be asking as many questions about them as the do about you, if not more. If possible, check out their equipment, talk to drivers that they don't pick to introduce you to. Most likely as a rookie, a company isn't going to put you in a brand new truck with all the bells and whistles. There will be issues, and you as the driver needs to be able to understand what you can drive safely with, and what you can't. An apu is certainly not a safety feature, nor are jakes, or even a radio. Are they nice to have? Of course. Did your company tell you they would be provided? I bet not from the sound of it.

    Normally I try to give new drivers the benefit of the doubt, but in this case...

    I think oftentime there is a real issue with new entrants into trucking thinking all is beautiful and unicorns do exist and fart glitter. .. this industry has problems and gripes just like every other job on the planet.
    Anyone reading this thread who is considering entering the profession should let this thread sink in, it's very worthy of note and remembering. As has been mentioned numerous times already by others there has not been one safety concern noted. The check engine light is not a DOT OOS violation, the apu not working is not a OOS violation, the jake not working is not a OOS violation. Would it be nice to have all those things functioning.......by all means yes. A piece of paper stating an individual has been properly trained and certified to operate a heavy commercial class A vehicle when in fact they are not ready....is a scary thing and the issues the OP is griping about pales in comparison to that. If anyone has a valid right to be raising hell..it's the company. Two poorly prepared newbies in a 40 ton projectile who can't remember how to brake properly is huge. Surely between two people you can at least remember what was taught to you about safe operation on grades and proper braking. It's one of the most important things (if not the most important) during the whole schooling/training that one learns. Maybe companies/schools/training programs are focusing too much on compliance (to save their own butts) and not enough on the issues that can have deadly consequences. Maybe there is a problem with students being overly excited to be getting into trucking and just simply cannot absorb what is being taught them..I hope neither of those things is the case but something is wrong somewhere when serious safety related operating techniques taht are taught in both school and training are forgotten in the course of 2-3 weeks. Good luck to both of you and if it was me I would be brushing up on safe vehicle operating guidelines every chance I got until it sinks in and can be remembered and employed in real time driving conditions. Uhhhh flatbedding? Take some nicely intended advice....not for you. The brutal scalding heat of summertime tarping coupled with intense bitter cold and howling wind/rain,sleet/snow in the winter is something you could not do any time in the near future. At least by the sound of your post anyway. It (flatbedding) might be something you may want to pursue in 10-12 years once you settle into driving and are starting to really "know" how to operate safely under various conditions. Yeah....it's gonna take you that long most likely. Again, good luck to both of you.

    Well I hope everything works out....but No Jake.. A safety issue? Seriously? No braked a safety issue....No Jake is an inconvenience....kinda sorta..;)

    Had a few drivers try that one on me. I called the tow truck to tow the truck into the dealership. Dealership went over the truck said there was nothing wrong with the truck. Caught a plane from KC to where the truck was located. By this time I am now into this for almost $2000.00 including the drivers hotel bill. Got to Charleston, SC took a cab to the dealership, took the drivers crap out of the truck, put it into boxes for him. Called the hotel, shut off the room, shut off the drivers company cards. Got into the supposed unsafe truck delivered the load 300 miles away, got another load back to KC, no problems with the supposed unsafe truck.

    Driver called me and threatened to kick my rear. I told him anytime he felt jumpy enough that I would let my 17 year old weenie dog take care of him. I told him if he wanted to put on the boxing gloves and have a bout in the ring, that I would be more than willing to oblige. Still have not seen him show up to take on either my weenie dog or me in the ring.

    Learned a long time ago that I could not be sued for boxing in a bout with a load mouthed employee.
    Always asked the ones that put the gloves on, how did that left hook feel as they were getting knocked out.
