Hi guys, I've always wanted to own my own rig,and right now I have a chance to get a pretty good deal on one, would buy it outright no financing. Here's the catch, I'm a company driver right now and gross 6 figure, so I don't really want to quit that job. Would running my own truck 1 or 2 days a week be a financially availabe option (the trucks a 93 379 Pete, I would love to just be able to drive it, even if it's not the most proffitable), or would I be better off hiring a driver and leasing that to a company?
Feel free to ask questions, half of the goal for the truck is just to be a sweet ride some day,I love trucking. Thanks
Possible side job

Im not an O/O but I'm sure HOS might be an issue with your current job. I think you would have to report all the hours you drove the 93 Pete 1 or 2 days a week to your company. I wouldn't want to mess up a 6 figure company drive4r job.
I assume you meant driving the Pete on your off days at your current job -
Well I would be able to drive Saturday , and be under 70, and still have a 36 reset before Mondays shift rolls around. Plus holidays, or other days off I get. I would like to just be able to drive it, as a hobby that I won't lose money atleast. And if it is going to cost quite a bit maybe hiring a driver and just getting in it every now and then for that nostalgic feel.

If you want to truck for a hobby there's always plenty of cheap freight to keep you busy. Not sure I understand the thought process of working for fun just to make other people money. The truth is No. You can't have your cake and eat it too. If you want a business put the time in. You're not going to do that working a full time job the rest of the week then just drive on the weekends for fun. Are you serious? Crazy.

if i where you i would steer clear of buying the truck for your self to drive. sounds like you will have a 52day per year possiable a few more that you will beable to work in the pete. your insurance could be up to 10,000 or more so each load you have you will be paying pretty much $200 just insurance plus fuel and what you pay your self... best of luck

Haha, well the dream would be to drive for myself one day, don't want to quit my day job until it's a bit more structured, does that help? What's the process to hire somebody, and can I lease my truck to a company if I'm not the driver?

You sure gonna have lots people lining up wanting to drive a 1993 truck

I bought the '89 T600 in my profile pic about 6 months ago. I work it on Saturdays and do my full-time job during the week. It's been working out great. I do the good paying but crappy weekend work no one else wants to do.
